Battle Slots ReviewSo, this is just like Puzzle Quest, except Battle Slots replaces the gems with, you guessed it, slots (as in slot machines). You do damage from the results of the spinning of the slots but can also get: Attack points (red) to use skills; Mana points (blue) to cast spells; Gold to buy stuff at the shops; or Experience to increase your character's level. You have a good amount of control as to how the slots are set up, too. Like in PQ, this game even has "mounts" but in Battle Slots the beasts you capture are kept in your "Zoo" and you can use their spells. AND the game includes Allies who can help you in battle, AND Summons which appear in the slots randomly and do various things. Overall, a deep, engaging and nice-looking game here. Luck plays just about the same amount of importance as it does in PQ, with strategically building your character becoming more important as the game progresses. The story is simple, but entertaining. Like PQ, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Battle Slots is so much more than the typical slot game which are usually all luck. This game makes you strategize as you build your character's abilities. But it's also very forgiving, as defeat in a battle costs you nothing except having to repeat the battle if you need its rewards. Battle Slots was obviously built with a lot of care and its level of quality is a nice surprise.
