Steinberg Cubase 6 Update ReviewPRO's: I've been a Steinberg user since 1999 and have used most of their products including Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab, HALion and other VST instruments. These are powerful software tools of undeniable quality that have served me well on the PC. Development of VST plugins, Rewire and VST instruments are particularly notable and have been great successes.
CON's: I have been disappointed with the current upgrade to Cubase 6 for a number of reasons including: 1) high upgrade price, 2) very few new features that are of any use to me, 3) very poor documentation, 4) poor support by phone or e-mail, 5) the eLicenser erased my Cubase 4 license, 6) steep learning curve, 7) does not work with some VST2 plugins, especially the 64-bit version, 8) VST2 plugins are particularly difficult to set-up and 9) Direct-X plugins are not recognized.
Steinberg seems to be on a course of forced obsolescence for older software, in my opinion. Their lack of telephone support even after my e-mail is unacceptable. Unless you need specific features new to Cubase 6 it is not worth the upgrade price. I was very happy with Cubase 4 and now cannot even use it on my PCs with older Windows operating systems.
