Windows Live OneCare 2.0 (Up to 3 Users) ReviewI have been using Microsoft's Live OneCare System for about a year-and-a-half, and I went to the 2.0 version about three months ago. I've got to tell you though, I wasn't too happy about using it at first because of two factors: 1) Microsoft seemed to be linking a lot of things to this "Live" concept, and 2) The program seemed like it was making a lot of promises it couldn't keep. On the first matter, I still have some concerns; on the second matter, it has lived-up to its promises.
After almost a year, Microsoft upgraded my product to 2.0, and then when I added another computer to my LAN, I used one of the three licenses that came with the new version of OneCare to extend my HUB's subscription. And it did so without a problem. You will notice on the picture I uploaded from my individual computer (see customer images), that my subscription will renew in three days.
I don't know about you, but at work I've seen what not keeping-up with your virus protection and firewall protection can do to someone's computer. Mine hasn't been hit, but other's have and we use Norton's and McAfee at work with each computer set for automatic updates. At home, since I have a LAN, too, I wanted to make sure I didn't have similar problems, so for the past three years I tested several products, namely Norton's System Works, Norton's 360, e-Trust (Computer Associates), and OneCare.
Having used Norton's for over 12 years, I have been disappointed that they are doing less with their products, and I really became disenchanted when they didn't offer their firewall protection with System Works. Then, it seemed I couldn't find System Works, and I had to use 360, which was a mere shadow of System Works. It grated me that I had to buy one product, then buy their Internet Security, too. I, also, didn't think they were on top of the virus situation as much as they used to be. Then, there was an issue about renewals that did not go into effect when they should, and hour long waits for tech support to help correct the problem.
So, I tried e-Trust, and I didn't have any qualms about it, at first. At first it sent out e-mails, often times several times a day to update the software virus protection. Then, it went to an automatic check whenever you booted-up. Then, came the renewal. I had it on two machines and was successful only on one when it came to renewing my subscription. Now, batting 500 is great in the major leagues, but not when it comes to protecting my computer.
OneCare, though, has lived-up to their promises. At first I had it on one computer, and it performed a massive back-up that took all night (200 GB's... this was with version 1.0). Subsequent back-ups went quicker for only the new, or changed, files were updated. Adding 2.0 to other computers produced a back-up on individual computers much faster, 1 to 2 hours, depending on the computer, with amounts in the 100 GB range. With 2.0, I've been able to have one centralized back-up on an exterior HP Drive. I, also, have back-ups performed on each computer with various other drives: Seagate's FreeAgent, and Simple-Tech.
In total, I have four computers set-up on OneCare. Two are on the hard-wire, and two are on a WiFi connected to the hard-wire, with my laptop's back-up on another computers external drive (I added the laptop the day after writing this review, which gives me the 4th computer on the network.) One benefit I've seen of using OneCare is that the new computer's version usually recognizes the printers on the network, and it asks me if I want this computer to have access to it. If it doesn't, and I am not a networking whiz, I have just loaded the drivers for a printer that is on the network, and it then easily finds that printer and finishes out connecting the printer with that computer.
Once I set my schedule of the tasks for OneCare, I've let it do it's job, and I've had only one issue, and that's not a OneCare problem... On the iMac, I have both Mac OS X and XP Pro running. With XP Pro, I have OneCare installed. When XP Pro updates itself, it cannot download and install all updates, so OneCare gives me a "yellow," or caution warning. After manually having XP Pro on the iMac finish its download, everything goes "green," which to me is a great place to stop this review.
OneCare has greatly simplified my life. Version 2.0 is better than 1.0., and you can have from one to three computers covered with one subscription. Also, when I extended my subscription, it added the year onto my current subscription several months in advance without my having to call tech support to straighten out a problem. Regarding subscriptions, you have to have a "live.com" ID activating your initial, up to, 3 subscriptions (for me this was a "hotmail.com" address). If you have more computers to cover than 3, you will need a second "live.com" ID. Renewals are around $49.00 for one year's protection for up to three computers. Unlike some virus programs, like Norton's, you cannot uninstall OneCare and then install a newly-purchased, unused copy of OneCare, unless you install it under a different "live.com" ID. (BTW, I learned this the hard way, yet the Microsoft folks were quick at straightening it out (866-ONECARE).)
As the say on TV sometimes, I"m a happy camper, and I'd recommend this product to anyone wanting to protect one computer or several on a LAN. Be sure to check-out the pictures I uploaded to give you a better idea of what type of information you will receive from OneCare because that generally will tell you more than what I did about its capabilities.Windows Live OneCare 2.0 (Up to 3 Users) Overview

Microsoft Visio Professional 2007 ReviewI been using Visio Enterprise 2003 for the last 3 years with Sql Server 2000. My only use of visio relates to database modeling. Once the drawing is been approved, I simply used "Update" option to update database. The update option is a time saving feature in a rapid application development environment for changing relationship, keys and constraints. Writing those changes back to Sql Server is a smooth process.
Recently i changed my development environment to SQL Server 2005 and figured out that Visio 2003 Enterprise does not work with SQL Server 2005. So I decided to buy visio professional 2007 to use the single feature of database modeling.
Upon installation, I figured that there is no option for writing changes back to SQL Server 2005 in either version of Visio (2003 Enterprise, 2007 Professional). In simple there is no "update" or "generate" command in visio professional 2007.
Put it simple. If you want to use database modeling and hoping to write those changes back to SQL Server 2005 with visio, DON'T BUT IT......IT WILL NOT WORKMicrosoft Visio Professional 2007 OverviewOffice Visio 2007 makes it easy for IT and business professionals to visualize analyze and communicate complex information systems and processes. Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10.0 ReviewI bought this digital suite for the one thing it does exceptionally well. No fuss - no muss, this software makes beautiful slide shows with narration or music. There is very little personalization, very little choice in how the slide show plays out, but the pans and zooms are nicely done anyway.
Here's where the trick comes in -- it's advertised or somehow implied that the Photo Story can be burned onto a DVD to operate on most DVD players. Exactly what I wanted, but that doesn't seem to be the actual case. Unless I'm wrong (that DOES happen on occasion) the Photo Story only seems to burn onto video CDs. Makes for a short televised story, sadly.
So that's the caveat. It's good software, easy to operate, burns digital files to CD or DVD for archiving and does this extra lovely thing that the Adobe Album doesn't do in the Photo Story. But only three stars for the DVD failure. Five stars if it's there and I've somehow missed it.Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10.0 OverviewDigital Image Suite 10.0 offers photographers an expanded set of tools to meet your passion for digital photography. Microsoft OneNote 2010 ReviewI have used & been utterly fascinated with this genre of software {"note-taker," "organizer," "outliner," "free-form database," "personal information manager"} for decades. I well remember using the earliest versions of "Tornado Notes" & askSam--both of which were wonderful in their time; I've upgraded both of those apps over the years & have tested NUMEROUS other competing programs--including MyInfo, Ultra Recall, Info Select, TreePad, & WhizFolders.
OneNote Easily beats them ALL! There is simply no contest.
For those of you who haven't tried OneNote, here's a brief description of its many benefits--While its Feature-List is Huge, Polished, & Intuitive, these are some key features:: OneNote is a great place to put ALL your notes. It lets you organize all your data & access it in a Snap. Easily add HYPERLINKS Between any Notes, or Hyperlink to websites & to other programs. It Retains Formatting when you copy from the Web or other apps, & accepts text, photos, handwriting, drawings & audio. OneNote lets you put ALL your data in a single spot & find it again in a couple clicks. Unlike cumbersome tree-based organizers, OneNote lets you organize your data into Major Categories ("Notebooks")--such as "family" "hobbies" "projects" ...Into Specific Topics (in Section Tabs)--like "my Wife" "Bible study notes" "Simpson Project" ...And Into individual "Notes"--be it 2 words or a lengthy treatise. SEARCHING is indexed so the results appear even Before you've entered your search-string! The Notebook Names, Section Tabs, & Notes display on the sides of your screen ready to open with a Click. Text formatting is available via right-click. It Automatically Saves And Backs up your work. In short, OneNote offers you the ability to manage every bit of data in your life--an Amazing program you'll wonder how you managed without!
I was previously a long-timer user of OneNote 2007. OneNote 2010 is truly an Essential Upgrade: While the Search features in O.N. 2007 were Very Good, the Search Enhancements in O.N. 2010 are Spectacular; OneNote has adopted Search-As-You-Type searching (you usually spot your desired note Before you finish typing the search-string) ... & navigating through your hits is quite fluid.
And the additional Enhancements added since the 2007 version are just too numerous to mention here. Here are just a few of the Changes Since O.N. 2007::
>> You can save your notes to the web so they're available from Any computer.
>> The toolbars are even easier than before to personalize--especially the Quick Access Toolbar--for instant
access to your every most-used function. Prefer not to use the Ribbon?--You rarely need to even see it.
>> Amazingly, Searching is even More Powerful Than Before & offers even More options.
(Be sure to take advantage of Operators "AND," "OR," "Partial," & "Exact"!) Simply stunning!
>> There's a SEPARATE Search for "Find-on-Page" that instantly highlights all hits for just the text on-screen.
(BTW, all OneNote search-results appear Instantaneously.)
>> The previous limited space for Section Names has been thoroughly corrected.
>> The "Format Painter" lets you apply desired formatting to multiple selections.
>> Sub-pages are now multi-level, collapsible, & a breeze to work with.
>> All deletions of Pages & Sections are instantly recoverable via an internal Recycler.
>> Etc., Etc., Etc.
A truly _Compelling Upgrade to a program that is worth its weight in Pure Platinum.
... And if you haven't tried OneNote yet, You are in for a Treat! You will wonder how you managed without it: All your Thoughts, Data & Ideas perfectly organized & instantly accessible.
How good is OneNote? Brilliant people worldwide are calling it the Best & Most Important software on their computer.
It is certainly that for me: The Sine Qua Non of my computer, an awesome extension of my brain.
P.S.: To keep this review concise, I included secondary notes in Comment One. If you notice any inaccuracy or any way my review can be more helpful, please add a comment. Thank you! :)Microsoft OneNote 2010 OverviewMicrosoft OneNote 2010 gives you the ideal place to store and share your information in a single, easy-to-access location.

Microsoft Visual Basic .NET Standard 2003 ReviewAll the books I have read on learning VB.NET assume that you really have Visual Studio .NET installed. I keep running into roadblocks on projects I want to try that the standard edition won't support. Very frustrating. I checked out their website before I bought. I won't go so far as to say "deceptive", because when I went back and really dug I was able to find documentation on the differences between editions, but they really make it hard to figure out that the standard edition is so limited. I hope they enjoy my $100, because I sure haven't enjoyed this.Microsoft Visual Basic .NET Standard 2003 OverviewVisual Basic .NET Standard 2003 is the complete application tool for the .NET platform!

Microsoft Windows Home Server System Builder with URP1 (OLD VERSION) ReviewAt the time I'm writing this, Amazon has two versions of WHS listed: this one with a plain white graphic, and another more expensive one with a blue graphic. THIS is the more recent version, despite its lower price.
Microsoft hit a home run with Windows Home Server (WHS). It is one of the first times I've seen a sophisticated software product that is perfect for regular non-techie consumers. It is easy to use, but does not assume the user is a moron. It does this by placing just the right warnings at the right times. Obviously, it's been user-tested a LOT.
Under the covers is is built on Windows Server 2003 SP2. That is an excellent choice, because it is a very mature operating system, and is in use in millions of computer servers around the world. In fact, one of the things I was surprised about when first booting up the software is that you really do have access to the regular Windows desktop, including Start menu and many of the normal programs and features you would expect to see.
So for me, as someone who is very comfortable working with servers, I was very happy to see that although the product does not NEED any kind of tweaking, I had full access to be able to make subtle adjustments that I wanted. For example, I was able to adjust the encryption level on remote desktop sessions to "High" (from the default Normal) in the Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration application. What a great thing that Microsoft did not "dumb down" the product and restrict access for those who know what they're doing.
One of the first things you should do with any new OS install is to run Windows Update, so that it gets patched with all the latest updates from Microsoft. This install is no different, and there were in fact many updates to install (53 or 54 in total). So before playing with your new server, first run Windows Update from the Start > All Programs menu, select the "Custom" option, and check all the boxes to install everything.
Then, after you install the updates (which includes the upgrade from IE6 to IE7) and the computer reboots, run Windows Update again. Typically, in an update that large there are updates that don't install because of some dependencies, and there will be additional updates to the updates you just installed. This is common. Every time Windows Update finishes, immediately run it again -- until you see "0" (zero) next to every category on the left. Also, don't use "Express", keep using "Custom" (contrary to the "recommended" tag next to Express).
Another thing you may want to do is get rid of the Logon Warning that appears every time you log in to the server's desktop (either remotely or on the computer itself). You can do that simply by deleting "Logon Warning" from the All Programs > Startup folder in the Start menu. It is a simple HTML file, so deleting it does not do any harm.
I am really happy with this home server product from Microsoft, and I highly recommend it for any household that has more than one computer.Microsoft Windows Home Server System Builder with URP1 (OLD VERSION) Overview

MICROSOFT PHOTO PREMIUM 10 ReviewPictureIt/Digital Image Pro Ver. 9 was better quality software. Version 10 made improvements on automating some tasks but made other fundamental functions work really badly: If you apply Red Eye correction, most of times when trying to increase the effect to achieve a natural eye color, the software inserts like a Black ring around the eyes!! Also, the sharpen function works pretty, pretty bad!!
I don't understand why releasing to market software with these kinds of bugs on features that are used the most? why if they were working perfectly on version 9?
I returned this very expensive ("very poor" price/performance) software to buy other program where all the editing functions work as they should!!

You can easily manage multiple sites and remote locations and you can publish a site to multiple destinations. Also, Expression Web can do "live" on-server edits via FTP, which saves time and cost, while also reducing errors.
Import Photoshop files Expression Web can import Photoshop files directly with complete control over transparency, the layers imported and the converted image format (PNG, GIF, and JPEG). Expression Web remembers your layer and format settings so that you can quickly reimport to reflect any changes to the Photoshop original.

Expression Studio 4 Web Professional ReviewMy background is straight HTML/CSS development as well as FrontPage 2003 development. I was tasked with the objective of converting a problematic 5000 line FP website to something easy to use and compatible with my website provider. (Since FP has lost support from MS the provider also is withdrawing support.) Unfortunately, MS offers no conversion path. (Incredibly short sighted!!!!!!) I was on my own to get rid of any code that used "FP extensions" as well as various syntax problems from FP. (For example, uppercase FP HTML tokens are non-standard.)
Once all of the non-standard FP code was deleted or modified, I was able to import the website into one of the standard Expression Web CSS templates. From there everything worked very smoothly. Code validation is built-in with many ways of reporting status or errors. Pages can be previewed in 3 ways: a) Directly in the EW4 designer; b) Hitting a function to call Internet Explorer; or c) using their SP or SuperPreview mode. This last options allows side by side comparison of your page with two browsers (IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, etc.) as well as on any resolution screen.
A really nice feature is that you can move or delete most of the windows and then later click "Panels, Reset Workspace Layout" to get things back to normal. Another feature is its HTML format command.
Publishing can be done through FTP and the website provider no longer needs FP Extensions installed. EW4 produces code that can be run anywhere. It integrates with PHP (available free from 3rd party), and you can test PHP code by launching Internet Explorer.
Minor criticisms: you have to save your edited source before launching IE. By comparison, the old Macromedia HTML development editor would transparently make a temporary copy and then launch IE. So if you want to "fool around" safely, you must manually make a copy to "play" with and leave the original alone. Another item is that there is no HTML tag editor. Intellisense is nice but it would also be nice to be able to see all of the options of say the tag, or have the editor determine the size of an image.
It's an excellent product and I would recommend it.
Expression Studio 4 Web Professional OverviewMicrosoft Expression Web 4 gives you the tools you need to produce high-quality, standards-based Web sites, with built-in support for today's Web standards, sophisticated CSS design capabilities, and visual diagnostic tools. Microsoft Money Plus Home and Business ReviewSo, after using Microsoft Money Plus Home and Business, I found it to be a rather robust program. The reporting methods, categorizing, connections into the financial institutions, etc. are excellent. I have been a user of both quicken (for business) and money (for personal) for years. I am glad they have finally merged the two properly.
It meets the needs of my small business as well as my personal finance and investments. I would recommend to anyone.
As for the review from C:
I am finding the user rating system on Amazon becoming less and less useful by the day. Charles gives the software a bad rating, not because of his experience with the functionality of the product, but the time line in which the BETA and the production version were released. There are reasons why they call it BETA and you should have known the risks prior to using it as a production software. Just because Microsoft didn't release the final version prior to your BETA trial running out, you mark the software with 1 star. As for the claim that it doesn't let you convert the data to Quicken or Money 2006 is flat out wrong, I have been able to do both (I guess that must have been one of the features not available in the BETA version). Additionally, why are you writing a review on here if you haven't purchased the FULL VERSION of the product. In actuality, you didn't use the software on which you are reviewing, you were using a BETA version.
Finally, I am tired of hearing users complain about MS and how Vista and Office 2007 are bad products just because they weren't adept enough to figure it out and were unwilling to hit the F1 key and read. Enough of my rant, hopefully others are getting sick of this on these reviews as well.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional ReviewWindows XP is great but there is one thing you need to know: in order to use this product, you will be forced to contact Microsoft (by phone or via internet) in order to get an "activation code" after you have installed the software. If you don't do this, you will no longer be able to use this product after 30 days. In order to get this activation code, you will have to send Microsoft a code made up from the different pieces of hardware on your computer. You have no choice in this matter. They will then give you an this activation or "unlock" code in return. If you change the hardware on your computer beyond a Microsoft-specified amount, Windows XP will suspect that it is now installed on a different machine and will demand that you apply to Microsoft for another activation code before you can continue using it.
If their database shows that you have already "activated" this software before, they will demand a reason why you want another activation code. If they think you are trying to install the software on more than one machine, they can deny you the activation code, thereby rendering the software useless. The aim of this is to make sure that you buy one separate copy of Windows XP for each machine you own.
Be aware that, even after you have bought this software, Microsoft still has the ability to deny you the ability to use what you have paid for.Microsoft Windows XP Professional OverviewWindows XP is the operating system release that unifies the Microsoft range, with all the desktop versions now built on the NT/2000 code base rather than the shakier foundation of Windows 95, 98, and Me. That makes XP a great upgrade for users of the now-obsolete 9x and Me line, but for those already on Windows 2000 Professional it is a closer call. Despite the similar name, there is no special synergy between Windows XP and Office XP, which works fine on Windows 2000.
XP certainly looks different, with rounded window corners, larger and more detailed icons, and a clean-look desktop that on first installation shows only the taskbar and Recycle Bin. XP is also more customizable than earlier versions of Windows, and includes visual themes that let you change the whole appearance of Windows in an instant. That is the window-dressing, but underneath are some significant improvements. One of the most interesting is Remote Desktop. A standard XP feature, this uses technology from Microsoft Terminal Server to enable users to access their computer over any connection; for example, by dialing into the office from home. This is not just file access--this technology lets you run applications remotely as if you were sitting at your desk at work. This is mature technology, stable and carefully thought out. So, for example, you can print from a remote word processor to a local printer. A variation on the theme is Remote Assistance, where the user can allow a remote helper to view their desktop, or optionally gain control of the keyboard and mouse, in order to troubleshoot a problem.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 Version Upgrade ReviewIf you use PowerPoint for public/professional speaking, seminars, etc., then the "Presentation View" feature of MS PowerPoint 2007 (and, of course, also in 2010) is worth whatever price you paid. I don't know about you, but the first time I used PowerPoint to prepare a presentation, I was shocked to find out that the "Notes" section could not be viewed by the presenter during the presentation -- whose idea was that? Yes, you could print the notes and the slide on paper, but then you had to turn the (paper) page in addition to moving to the next slide in the presentation. Well no more. Presentation View now lets you see a different view of your presentation than the audience. The audience sees just the slide; the presenter can see the Notes section (the window for Notes can be resized and the font size of the Notes increased), along with thumbnails of upcoming slides (some resizing of the thumbnails is possible), it tells you the slide number of the current slide and the total number of slides, and even shows how much time has elapsed since the presentation began. For me, being able to have ALL my notes visible was nothing short of spectacular. I could include citations to reference material relevent to that slide, reminders about information that had to be covered on that slide, and anything else I wanted. To the audience, it appeared as though I didn't have any notes. The price for the stand alone MS PowerPoint program is about $100. The price for MS Office Suites varies from $200 to $500. For this one feature, I would have gladly paid $500. Once you use Presentation View one time, you will never go back.Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 Version Upgrade OverviewMicrosoft PowerPoint 2007 Version Upgrade Win32 CD

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Upgrade ReviewThis is definately the best Visual Studio ever. I've been using it ever since the beta was released and bought the upgrade the very day my beta expired. I am amazed that so many things I wish VS did, now it does. Microsoft FrontPage 2003 Upgrade ReviewMicrosoft Office FrontPage 2003 sports a new "Windows XP"-like interface. The major changes to this version, however, occur under the hood.
FrontPage 2003 creates cleaner code than any previous version. FrontPage also supports web development technologies such as ASP.NET. FrontPage 2003 is able to create more complex web solutions easier than any previous version.
One major drawback to FrontPage is its lack of support for PHP. As PHP becomes more common it is surprising that Microsoft still does not support it natively in FrontPage 2003.
FrontPage's more robust code and intuitive interface make it an excellent upgrade.Microsoft FrontPage 2003 Upgrade OverviewFrontPage 2003 includes the professional design, authoring, data and publishing tools you need to create dynamic and sophisticated sites.Build data-driven Web sites, enables by Windows SharePoint servicesMove files easily between local and remote locations, and publish in both directionsUpgrade version -- requires previous full version installation

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit for System Builders Reviewthere's no reason not to get a Vista box. It's fairly stable, but not without it's bugs. In the 2 weeks I've been using it, I would say it runs into more problems than XP. But recovering from those pitfalls is smoother than XP. On the whole, it's a wash as an upgrade.
If you have a stable XP box that meets your needs, there's no compelling reason to make the switch. The software is on the pricey side, but the expense is not limited to that alone. To get the most from the new bells and whistles of the Premium edition, you'll probably need to upgrade some hardware for the new Aero graphic interface.
Some of Aero is nice. The sidebar gadgets are nifty, as is the flip between windows feature. OTOH, the transparent title bars get old after a few days and it locks you into a default lilac color scheme for the menubars and whatnot. You can revert to a classic window layout with complete control over the appearance, but it takes away Aero's nicer features when you do. I'd much prefer it if I could keep the sidebar and window flip, without being tied to Aero's window appearance. Maybe they'll fix this annoyance in a future upgrade, then again, maybe they won't.
By far, the biggest annoyance with this OS is the security 'feature' designed to protect your computer from - you. Sometimes it seems you click more warning and approval boxes than you do just using the computer. You can disable this completely - at a price. It can cause some software - such as Adobe Acrobat to not install. Like with the Aero feature, it's all or nothing. There are no in between settings. Switching back and forth between the settings also carries a price. After the required reboot, many personal settings, passwords, cookies, etc are gone. The thing to do is to set up a user account with each setting and switch back and forth as needed. Again, maybe they will fix this aggravation in a future upgrade.
Sooner or later, all PC users will be using this OS. It's inescapable and we all know it. That said, there is nothing about Vista Home Premium that should make you feel any need to rush into it.Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit for System Builders Overview

Microsoft Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade Pack ReviewI had read all the reviews and decided "What the heck". After all, i use a laptop and want bitlocker and the other security enhancements.
I ordered from Microsoft (I wish I had from amazon as I've a $25 certificate) and installed it according to their directions and recommendations.
Keep in mind I had a 3rd party antivirus security product installed.
When I started the upgrade process, I got a prompt asking if I wanted to get product updates online (recommended) - I said 'yes' to this. Maybe that was why my upgrade was successful.
Note, I own a Gateway MX8739 and it came with its own Anytime Upgrade disc.
The actual upgrade took almost 2 hours and was mostly automatic. Once it got back to the login screen, I entered my name and password as usual. My desktop reappeared normally. I started MS Word 2007 and it re-initialized and had to reboot. I said "no" to that prompt because Windows Update was downloading and installing 30 updates at the same time.
I did have to re-activate, but that went through without a hitch. Vista Ultimate is now the installed version, it's activated, antivirus program's definitions downloaded without fail, Office did its update and my settings remained unchanged, I am very happy.
I'm sorry some people had problems. I almost did not buy because of what has been said. However I did buy, and am glad I did. Hopefully my two cents will help address the balance.Microsoft Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade Pack OverviewWAU HomePrem to Ultimate English UPG Not to Latam DVD WAU Retail Tech

Microsoft Office Professional 2010 Product Key Card ReviewPurchase of a product key card for Microsoft Office 2010 saved me a substantial amount of money, given that I needed only one license. (The CDROM product provides licenses for installation on two computers, e.g., a purchaser's desktop and laptop.)
Office 2010 was not preloaded on my target computer, so I downloaded the software from the web site named in the key card instructions. To get the download, you must enter the product key, which is case sensitive. (You must use caps for the letters in the key.) The web site gives you the option of purchasing a backup CDROM if you're a nervous nellie like me. The web site also gives clear instructions on how to proceed after the download.
The software download (585MB) took about two hours with a relatively slow DSL connection. Installing the software requires the product key to be entered for a second time (include the hyphens). The installation itself took about 15 minutes on a 1.67 GHz netbook, which had a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 installed that needed to be removed. (The installation screen gave the option of removing a previous Office installation or leaving all or parts of a previous installation on the computer.)
As often happens with Microsoft products, the "installation progress bar" finished a few minutes before the installation itself was finished. The product then required a reboot to finalize the installation. For me, the only really anxious moments involved in the entire operation were the moments spent waiting and watching the screen while the computer was verifying the legitimacy of the product key.Microsoft Office Professional 2010 Product Key Card OverviewOrganize projects, manage finances and build a better way to do business with tools from Microsoft Office Professional 2010. Microsoft Office XP Standard ReviewMy company's Microsoft rep recently gave me a T-shirt that reads "Office XP - upgrade today!". I write this review to reclaim my soul. Office XP is NOT a necessary upgrade, nor is it necessarily the best option for a new system.
A point-by-point comparison of the latest and the last version of the suite is not necessary, as they are virtually identical. Aside from minor enhancements, the only noticeable new feature is a MS Works-like "task pane" which takes up valuable screen real estate (thankfully, it is easily disabled). Perhaps the most talked about aspects of the new Office are the Activation Wizard (which restricts multiple installations) and the fact that "Clippy" doesn't appear as often. I am rather annoyed that I will probably have to call Redmond after upgrading my new PC, but given rampant software piracy, I understand the motivation (let he who has no "offsite backups" cast the first stone). And let's face facts: if you can't figure out how to turn off the talking paper clip, you probably need the talking paper clip!
Bottom line: the money you save buying Office 2000 will more than make up for any "features" in XP you miss. Move quickly – soon you won't have the choice.Microsoft Office XP Standard OverviewMicrosoft Office XP's empowering document design tools, integration of voice recognition functionality, and impressive network- and Web-based sourcing capabilities should be enough to convince those interested in saving time and consolidating effort to take the leap.In keeping with Microsoft's much-ballyhooed .NET strategy, Office XP introduces several features that utilize the vast infosphere inhabited by the 21st-century desk jockey. Smart tags beckon underneath recognized objects like misspellings or symbols, offering a stock quote here, a synonym there, or "Would anyone care to configure my auto-correction list?" The task pane looks similar to Microsoft Internet Explorer's Explorer Bar, and acts like an open tool chest pulled up alongside each application in the suite, providing readily configured searches for information or multimedia files. Putting up a team Web site that tracks projects and serves as an information hub requires only the use of one of the included templates, ready to be customized and uploaded to the server. The Send for Review feature further streamlines the collaborative process by allowing the sender to view revisions made by multiple parties within the framework of the original document. Outlook now features a color-coded calendar and easier meeting management, along with instant messaging and variable e-mail account access. All user system errors can be tracked globally, and then network security settings modified remotely while anti-virus and debugging IT resources are diverted accordingly. After firing up Microsoft Word, typing "Dear Somebody," and hitting the Enter key, we made a startling discovery.
