Command and Conquer Generals ReviewC&C Generals is definitely one of the best RTS games there ever has been. And with the low price for the game and the expansion, this is a great deal.
Generals was a very solid game. A good challenge with excellent graphics and gameplay. the only problem I had was the difficulty settings. If you play this on easy, it was too easy. It you played it on hard, it was extremely hard. Other than that, the only other thing would be that I wouldn't reccommed this game if your computer is below the following: P3 1000mhz, 256 ram, 64meg video card. It was quite laggy, but playable. I upgraded to a P4 2.8mhz, 256ram, 128meg video card and this game played great on the highest settings.
You also get the expansion pack Zero Hour which I believe is the second best expansion pack ever (behind only Warcraft 3).
You get 15 more missions that are pretty challenging with more units, maps, and just plain fun.
There is also something called the Generals challenge which allows you to choose 1 of 9 different generals and you play against the other generals in 7 different battles (they mix them up depending on which general you choose). And this is quite challenging (again, don't play this on easy as it is too easy) and very fun. You can also use these generals for games vs the computer opponents or for on-line/LAN play. The generals give you more units and buildings. this expansion pack is what really makes this game rock. Alot of replay value here.
If you haven't gotten any of the C&C Generals games yet, here is your chance to get the whole thing at a great price and enjoy a great game.Command and Conquer Generals Overview

Diablo 2 Expansion: Lord of Destruction ReviewMany people complain about the high price of the Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction (LOD) Expansion set. To do so, I think, is to miss the point. You buy the game to play it, and its playability is what matters. People tend to think that an "expansion" merely adds a "10% more" to a game - but the fact is, LOD adds so much to the original game that you will probably never look back. Why would you give up a doubled stash? The 800x600 resolution pestered for way back in 2000 when D2 Classic was released? Instant switching between two sets of weapon/shield? New class-specific items, new uniques, greatly improved set items (gain bonuses as you collect each item, instead of having to complete them), elite items, runes (and runeword items), crafted items (i.e. make your own rares)? Two new classes (a druid who can summon creatures, cast elemental spells and shapeshift; an assassin who practises martial arts, lays traps and hones shadow disciplines), and an entire new act set in a wintry landscape (bunnies included)? Afraid to play alone? Don't worry, now your hirelings survive more than their first hit, and can be equiped with weapons and armour - they can even teleport when you walk too far! And some even have paladin auras! And they can be resurrected! How about little little details like: you can now reset the gambling screen at will; gambling prices scale with your level; a repair-all-equiped items button; blue items now get the most powerful prefixes/suffixes, giving them renewed value; click an item on the Horadric Cube to place it inside (you have to do it to realise the convenience); Act 2 Desert Warrior hirelings cast paladin auras; Act 5 Barbarian hirelings use Stun and Bash; town NPCs now sell more items; Act-end bosses can now be repeatedly killed for chance to find top items (in D2 Classic, great stuff only drops once); you can walk through your hirelings/minions (no more traffic jams in the Maggot Lair)... and the list goes on.Let's be honest though - everyone knows that the game code is not perfect; it has its bugs. Few games (especially of this scale) can claim to be bug-free. But despite this, the game is totally playable. I myself have not stopped playing D2 since June 30, 2000. The important thing to savour is the fact that the developers, Blizzard, are keen on resolving technical problems and gamneplay issues: think about it - Blizzard has released NINE patches to date. This may seem to suggest that the game is wrought full of bugs, but change your perspective - what it ultimately says is that its developer is conscientious enough to keep working at it. How many software developers can claim this level of diligence?Ultimately, the game is super-fun. As I suggested in my review of Diablo 2 (Classic), the game rewards all kinds of players, from the undiscerning clicker to the meticulous strategist - that is one of Blizzard's secret ingredients: allowing every style of player to find something that suits them in the game, and yet never fully satisfying them. I suppose that's why, after countless games, my wife is still trying to perfect her (deceptively simple?) mace-stunner barbarian...Diablo 2 Expansion: Lord of Destruction OverviewNew Characters:Assassin -- The Order of Mage Slayers was formed after the Vizjerei survived the tragedy brought on by Bartuc and Horazon. Their purpose was to watch for rogue magi that may become corrupted by the forces of Evil. To be effective at this task they were trained in abilities that were not conducive to Demonic corruption. Living as rumor and myth to the general population, even other magi knew very little about this mysterious order. Their reputation was shrouded in mystery and t

Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour Expansion Pack ReviewAlthough Generals added a new standard of graphics and several new and interesting departures from the original C&C game design, it was something less than revolutionary. Zero Hour goes a long way toward addressing this issue, and really turns Generals into a completely new game.
The expansion adds a new campaign for each side, with about 5 missions each. The campaign is interesting, and adds a few new elements, but is actually not the best part of the expansion. There are full motion video cutscenes (reporters talking about what's going on) to add some depth to the story, which is pretty straightforward stuff that could happen sometime in the near future (though we hope not). The missions add unique buildings and locations, all well done, as well as objectives that are pretty fun to carry out. Some of them are quite difficult, and there are a few stealth commando missions that Generals sadly lacked. There's also some campaign-only powers, such as the ability to call in battleship artillery and carrier strikes in one of the USA missions.
The real meat of the expansion starts with the new units and upgrades. Each side has new things, some of which go a long way toward filling holes in the armies' capabilities. China, for example, gets some much-needed surveillance by way of the Internet Center, and a worthwhile stealth detector in the Listening Post. Frenzy, a new general power, increases the firepower and armor of units for a brief time. China also gets added airborne firepower with the Helix and the ability to carpet bomb. The GLA gets several low-tech solutions, most of which are still geared toward outmaneuvering rather than outgunning the opposition. The Battle Bus, however, can pack quite a punch in a frontline role. Fake structures, a sometimes-useful throwback from Red Alert, can also be purchased. More interestingly, they can be upgraded into real ones, which is a nice way to play with an opponent's mind. The USA gets a powerful base defense with the Fire Base, which is garrisonable, effective against infantry, and doesn't need power to shoot. They also get a mobile anti-air unit in the Avenger, making it unnecessary for you to bring weak Missile Defender-packed Humvees along in future battles. Three new tech structures are also added- the Repair Bay (repairs all your ground units), Artillery Platform (shoots at enemies with a howitzer), and Reinforcement Pad (produces a tank on a countdown).
The upgrades and units are standard expansion fare, but Zero Hour adds something else- new generals, each with their own combat styles, units and powers, and personalities. There are three for each side- Air Force, Lasers, and Superweapons for the USA; Toxins, Camouflage, and Demolitions for the GLA; and Nukes, Tanks, and Infantry for China. Each of these has a doctrine that you must adhere to if you wish to use them effectively, and have weaknesses that hold you to it. For example, the US Air Force general cannot make tanks, but has aircraft cost reduced, unique and better air units, and a point defense laser on all airplanes that along with the standard countermeasures upgrade makes them practically immune to missile fire. China's tank general can build the Emperor Overlord, which is the newest and baddest vehicle on the ground. The GLA camouflage general can make literally everything invisible to the unaided eye, and turns the GLA into a real guerilla army (his Scud Storms are especially scary). All of these generals can be used in skirmish or multiplay, and there is a special 'generals challenge' campaign in which you pick one and play against all others. Your opponent is always on territory that favors their doctrine, and it can get pretty tough. This is a great way to accustom yourself to the various generals and pick your favorite, and is also quite fun since your opponents continuously taunt you during the games.
It's worth mentioning that several nice tweaks have been added to the engine. For example, fighters on an airbase will automatically attack nearby enemies, and both superweapons and scouting powers (e.g. radar van scans) appear as a sidebar icon with a number indicating how many are ready, if it's more than one. This makes it no longer necessary to separately hotkey practically every unit you have. Multiplayer options have been added, such as how much cash to start with, and no superweapons. The already excellent graphics have been improved, with even more fantastic fireballs, flotsam and jetsam, and better water effects. The result is undoubtedly the most graphically appealing RTS out there, though you might need a new video card if you want to run at max detail.
In summary, Zero Hour is for all intents and purposes a completely new game. Some have argued that it is what Generals should have been from the start, but I'm glad EA took the time to do a good job on this rather than rushing it for release. I honestly have no complaints about the expansion- it's one of the best ones I've seen for any game. It's a definite must for any Generals fan, and even if you weren't overly impressed with Generals, Zero Hour might just change your opinion.Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour Expansion Pack OverviewCommand & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour challenges you to face off against other military leaders using the most advanced arsenal in history!

Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 ReviewI got the product based on the PC Mag review which said it was great. It's quite simply an incredible product when you consider what previous versions were like and what you get for less than $100. It's not perfect but it comes close. Here's some pros and cons. On the pro side, it basically has everything you need for anything to do with music, burning, video, photo and DVD. Everything looks and works the same way (it might the nicest looking software on the PC - actually it looks like Apple made it!) All the tools work well together. The burning is really fast. There's a nice data back up feature with password protection. It has this very cool feature where you can create slide shows of pictures that move, which is an amazing effect. The whole slide show app is pretty clever. It's actually a video app (which might seem scary at first) but it's so easy to use you never realize it. You can use it for both pictures and video. The disc label app is pretty extensive(I didn't think people actually use these) it's a full featured graphic app just for disc labels and it works while you burn CDs. The photo app seems no different in features than Adobe Elements but is much easier to use (more about that below). The DVD application is very full - you can move and resize buttons and text, you can animate buttons and menus, it even has Dolby audio. You can edit DVDs. You can even create a full DVD with just one click with a digital camera. There's a tool that comes up when you plug in digital cameras to bring your photos or videos in. I've never seen such a tool (usually every digital camera has it's own software). You can record audio from LPs or tapes and the software finds the different songs automatically. The help system is pretty good - there's like 1000 pdf pages for everything and even video tutorials. On the con side, I would say the photo app is a bit too wizardy for my taste. Napster is kinda connected but not like the other applications -and there's no free trial or free downloads which would have been nice. There's no printed manual like the previous version but the online help is extensive. The launcher is kinda big - it can be made smaller but there's a big graphic of the product name they should lose.
On the whole though, I think it's a great product at an amazing price. I highly recommend it.Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Overview

Corel Photo Album 6 Deluxe ReviewCorel's Photo Album 6 (formerly known as Jasc's Paint Shop Photo Album) bundles together the most variety of features of any consumer-grade digital image manager -- a file-level manager, slideshow and screensaver module, creative projects (calendars, magazine covers, etc.), backup and archive module; and a basic image editor. Version 6 of Photo Album sports a new interface, some new project templates and backup options, and most importantly, easy-to-use IPTC and EXIF metadata support. The latter feature makes the program well worth the upgrade for prior users, and the best general choice for mainstream users, such as self-appointed family photo archivists, looking to organize and manage their growing collection of digital photographs for posterity.
What makes metadata support so important? A photograph may be worth a thousand words, but not always. Without aid, the casual viewer may not understand or remember a picture's content or context. (E.g., When and where was this picture taken? What is this a picture of? Who are these people? Why did I take this picture?) Even the photographer himself may not remember these things one or five years later. In an analog photograph, one could write a description on back of the print itself. With digital photos, this sort of information is kept as metadata. Without metadata, that interesting digital photograph (Holiday Party 2005: Roy and Ciara with Mayor Mike. Unbeknownst to Mayor Mike, Roy and Ciara rose to power by wasting hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars.) is just another anonymous picture. It is metadata that imbues digital photographs with their context and meaning, and that enables digital photograph collections to be quickly organized or synthesized in a wide variety of ways - by timeline, event, location, person, etc.
Prior versions of Photo Album kept metadata locked away inside a proprietary database, usable only inside the program. Corel Photo Album 6's support of IPTC and EXIF metadata relegates product lock-in to the past, and potentially makes your photograph descriptions (complete memory = photograph + metadata) accessible seamlessly across:
- online-photo sharing sites that support IPTC and EXIF metadata, such as Fotki and Flickr;
- friends, family, or other users who don't use Corel Photo Album 6;
- yourself, on other computers, if or when you outgrow Photo Album 6, or the product line is discontinued.
That's potentially, because Corel doesn't quite implement IPTC support the way everyone else does. Corel Photo Album 6 is able to view metadata of digital photographs created in Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, but the opposite is not necessarily true. Also, Photo Album 6 does not support Unicode, so foreign language support (for recording foreign toponyms and friends in your photographs without the need for Romanize them) is limited. However, PA6 is still better than its competitors, who either do not support IPTC or EXIF metadata (leaving you locked into their products), or make it cumbersome to use.
Corel Photo Album 6 is worthy of consideration even if you've already purchased a digital photo-editor / image library manager bundle, such as Microsoft's Digital Image Suite 2006 or Adobe's Photoshop Elements 4. Microsoft's Digital Image Library 11 (part of Microsoft's Digital Image Suite 2006) locks metadata inside its own proprietary database and the Windows XP NTFS file system, usable only on the single computer where the program is installed. DIS2006 users who want to share picture metadata with other users must manually copy and paste it for each picture they want to share. Further, the proprietary nature of DIS2006's database renders it susceptible to breakage - if you change the filename of an image outside the program, the image and its DIS2006 database entry are disassociated. Although Photoshop Elements 4 supports IPTC and EXIF metadata, the program continues to be disjointed - you fill in different pieces of metadata in the photo editor and photo organizer sections of the program.
Unfortunately, Corel's Photo Album 6 is just as disjointed. PA6 tracks picture title, description, and keyword information. Corel's photo editor, Paint Shop Pro 10 (equivalent to Microsoft's Digital Image Suite 2006's or Adobe's Photoshop Elements 4's photo editor; and a separate purchase) is needed to track picture location (city, state, country, etc.) information, among other things. However, Corel Photo Album 6's advantage over Photoshop Elements 4 is that PE4's photo organizer is very unwieldy when managing more than a few hundred photographs. It would be nice to see future versions of Corel Photo Album and Paint Shop Pro share the same metadata management features. Experienced users may look to PixVue, a free Windows Explorer extension, for a full IPTC/XMP metadata editor in the interim.
Consumers should understand that given PA6's low price, competitor programs may exceed the depth of any particular module(s) in PA6. For example, ACD System's ACDSee 8 is a better file-level manager. Simple Star's PhotoShow Deluxe 4 has the better slideshow module. With these other choices however, users may find themselves purchasing additional programs to match the breadth of Corel Photo Album 6's functionality. For example, ACDSee 8 Standard lacks a creative projects module, which ACD Systems offers for separate purchase, as FotoSlate 4.
Corel has done a very good job with Photo Album 6. It is the best general-purpose choice for both beginning and intermediate mainstream users.Corel Photo Album 6 Deluxe OverviewCorel Photo Album 6 offers aneasy way to organize, enhance, protect, and share your photos. Photo Album automatically downloads photos from your camera as soon as you plug it in, then rotates and organizes them for you. Then you can fix photos in a snap with one-click quick fixes. New! Favorite Photos Corel Photo Album 6 lets you designate your favorite photos with a gold star so that personal favorites can be quickly and easily identified for use in special projects, for e-mailing, or for printing.
New! Titles and Descriptions You can add titles and descriptions so that photos stand out. Corel Photo Album now saves your captions to the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) metadata so that the captions can be viewed and searched from within any program that supports IPTC.
Batch Rename With Corel Photo Album 6, you can quickly change those cryptic, numeric filenames that digital cameras assign to photos. Using the Batch Rename feature, you can easily change the name of an individual image, several selected images, or an entire folder of images.
PhotoSafe Backup SystemThe PhotoSafe Backup System helps you backup all of their photos onto CD or DVD. Archiving prevents the loss of valuable photos from hardware memory failure, or other computer mishaps, such as viruses. And PhotoSafe makes it simple by remembering which photos have already been backed-up on CD, and which photos are new.
PhotoRecovery PhotoRecovery is a straightforward application that recovers images, movies, and sound files from all types of digital media. Whether it's Memory Sticks, SmartMedia, CompactFlash, MicroDrives, Secure Digital Cards, Multimedia Chips, or floppy disks and most other forms of digital film, you simply insert your digital film into the reader, and run PhotoRecovery. Pictures are instantly saved to your computer.

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty ReviewThis new iteration of Starcraft is very good.
This is the collectors edition. Its about thirty dollars more than the base version. While that may seem like a lot being one third more cost, you do get a ton of really cool extras. I will put a + next to the ones I think are good. Whats different in this version vs the other version. For your thirty dollars you get:
..>> A nice art book with paintings, character models, sketches for behind the scenes look into the art of the game.
+ >> A making of DVD with behind the scenes movie of how the game was made.
..>> A CD of the music from the game.
+ >> A 2GB Flash drive shaped like Raynor's dog tag. In the drive there is the original Starcraft plus the Broodwar Expansion. You can use this drive for anything its still a 2GB drive in the end.
..>> A Starcraft comic book
+ >> A different icon for your character on Battlenet.
+ >> Special Icons and logos for your units in the game
+ >> Special collectors edition of the Terran Thor.
+ >> MY favorite a MiniThor pet for WoW that is for all characters on your Battlenet account. Just like the Pandaren monk or Mountain Dew promotional pet.
Its alot for only a few dollars more. I spent that much on 3 WoW pets, so if your into unique items this may be the upgrade for you. I have too many books now as it is so the extras are not IMHO worth it all that much. That being said the DVD has a nice production value to it and the other pieces are well made so if you are into that aspect you may enjoy it more.
The review of the game:
Blizzard has taken this game into the modern time with a new look, 3D engine and new strategies. You do not have to have played the original Starcraft to understand what is going on here. Blizzard has made this game to be completely stand alone and to train you as the player from the ground up. This means that if you may be new to the story then you will be brought up to speed quickly. If you are a veteran you will appreciate the new and exciting look and feel plus the new units.
3D:
+ For the first time you can swing down and check out your units and see what they can see with regard to the terrain.
+ Beautiful 3D terrain and environment. You really feel immersed in the fantastic vistas and look of the game.
+ Smooth performance even with low end graphics cards. I played this on my PC which has a GTX 470 and of course it was beautiful. I then tried it out on my wife's Macbook Pro (with old ATI card) and while not as rich looking it was very playable and smooth. Which means Blizzard cares enough about their fan base to let older slower computers play this game.
Sound:
+ Zerg squishy noises are awesome and make me nauseous to hear them. The clink of the space marines are so fitting and the phased sounds of the Protoss are spot on. Great sounds that add to the immersion.
+ Voice acting is some of the best I have heard in a game. It has a cinematic feel to it as you play.
Single Player:
+ The single player mode is fun and it is what I have played most sofar. It is challenging and without using any cheats (I am sure they are there but not released as of yet), it means I really have to watch my resources and units well.
+ Units are easily queued and respond with amazing AI. Give them a general order and they follow it and can think on their own better than any other RTS I have ever played, thats saying alot because I have played probably most of the RTS games even back to the original Civilization ( yes I am dating myself here).
Online play:
+ Games are quick to get into and feature a nice interface that makes the waiting time pass.
+ The ranking system thus far seems very fair and well thought out. I am sure it will change in the future but for now is very good.
Summary:
This is more than an update of the original. It is more like a movie playing homage to an old classic. What you get here is a brand new game with a history behind it as being one of the best video games of all time. Don't believe me ask one of the professional SC1 players. This game will grow over time and by the time the last iteration comes out it will be so polished that it may surpass SC1 as the seminal RTS game.
In closing:
I am not an employee of Blizzard nor am I a Fanboy. I merely purchased a game, enjoyed it wrote a review here on Amazon. Nothing more nothing less. I am passing on this information to you the consumer in hopes you will find this to be the case for you too.
It is great RTS game, get it.
UPDATE: August 1 2010
Ok Multiplayer just rocks. I spent 10 hours today playing head to head with my friends and against others. Its really good. From time to time people may crash and then the game gives you the win after 45 seconds. The chat is great, you can talk to your allies, your team mate and the opponents by just hitting tab. The achievements are great and really fun. I am still doing the unranked challenges, you get 50 total then you are ranked. By then you should know what your doing. You can create your own custom games, maps and setup. Very customizable.
Overall this is fantastic and really engaging. I haven't sat this long in one sitting since raid nights on WoW. I still don't get where people say you cannot chat with the other team, your team or whatever? I think its a ton of misinformation that is spreading. Oh well I am enjoying the heck out of this.
Get this game and get in the battle!
Thank you for reading my review.Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty OverviewStarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the sequel to Blizzard Entertainment's 1998 hit StarCraft, which has been hailed by players and critics worldwide as one of the top real-time strategy games of all time. StarCraft II will once again center on the clash between the protoss, terrans, and zerg, with each side deploying favorite units from the original StarCraft, along with numerous upgraded and brand-new units and abilities that allow for fresh tactics and strategies. The game's new 3D-graphics engine maintains the speed and responsive control of its predecessor while rendering hundreds of units onscreen for massive battles.StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty's solo campaign will continue the epic saga where it left off in StarCraft: Brood War. Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite ReviewO.K.
So I wrote a review for the last incarnation of this software package (version 9) and a lot of people found it very helpful.
There was one BIG problem with Version 9 - it had bugs in the video rendering section, which were never fixed with the software updates. It appears that Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 has fixed the obvious encoding/rendering bugs which plagued Version 9.
You can now safely encode video to all major formats used worldwide, creating your own custom templates if you wish.
Version 10 now includes working templates for anyone who uploads HD or SD WIDESCREEN 16:9 Videos to YOUTUBE. The OLD version of Vegas Movie Studio only had a template for "old fashioned" 4:3 aspect ratio, which meant you had to create a custom template to make a 16:9 video.
What does Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite come with?
*Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 - the video editing program.
*DVD Architect Studio 5.0 - the DVD creation software.
*Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 - an audio recording studio.
Highlight Features for the above three programs:
*Vegas Movie Studio has so many features from the Vegas Pro version, it's not funny. That's what I love the most about this software package - it's full of professional grade tools and effects. If you can think it, then Sony Vegas can do it. Many other retail video editors come no where near Sony Vegas, they are like toys in comparison, seriously.
*Vegas can handle all the latest video formats (Input & Output files), especially HD (High Definition) video, which is becoming the standard now, provided your computer has plenty of RAM (2GB at least) and an independent video card driver with its own memory.
*Easy compression of your videos, ready for upload to YouTube in Widescreen format.
*Vegas comes with a large amount of NewBlue Transition effects and Video Effects, which you can tweek to your heart's delight.
*Your ability to edit video on the timeline is amazing - however this will take time to master. I taught myself over the last year and a half using the Help Index, How To Animations and just pure patient experimentation.
*The DVD Architect Studio works seamlessly with your Vegas projects, and is fairly easy to use.
*Sound Forge Studio 10 has heaps of effects you can filter your audio recordings with, to create amazing sounds.
*My favourite feature in Sound Forge is the "Recording your old vinyl or tape collection into Digital Format". This part of the program has been upgraded now and is much easier to use. One BIG tip: Click Options, Preferences, Audio and then change Audio Device to Windows Classic Wave Driver - this will make Vinyl to Digital Recording work without getting a headache.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 is not for the novice who gets easily exasperated. If this is you, then stick with Windows Movie Maker.
If you like to experiment, have patience in learning new things, and really enjoy using Professional Tools to create a Professional Look, then go with this software package. I have yet to come across a limitation with this software - "creatively speaking".
I highly recommend existing users of older versions of this software, to make the upgrade due to the additions and fixes.
The price of this package or the upgrade for existing users is unbelievable, compared to the Pro Version.
If you are worried about whether this program will do what it says, then do the smart thing and DOWNLOAD the FREE TRIAL at Sony Creative Software website, where you can try it out for a whole 30 days!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
There is something that people should be aware of. High Definition Video Cameras are advancing technologically faster than the everyday home computer can deal with. HD Video made with the Super High Quality setting selected on your camera, produces a massive file. So if you expect Vegas to edit large High Definition files properly, then you are going to need a fast computer with plenty of memory. Intel i5 and i7 CPU's are a good choice, or any of the AMD Phenom II range CPU's.
If you are on an old computer, Vegas is not going to work. Rendering video, especially High Definition video, can suck every last brain cell out of your computer and ask it to travel beyond light speed, while pondering the creation of the Universe.
So buy a new computer and retire your dinosaur, before attempting to become a Video Enthusiast - this will prevent experiencing a "Meltdown".

FINAL NOTE:
The vast majority of people who are leaving 1 star reviews, are blaming Vegas for problems that they do not understand properly. All of the issues raised, had/have easy solutions. An example is this: If you can't install Vegas at all, log in as The Administrator and change some settings in your Virus Protector program - then it will install no problemo. I guess some people are very impatient and give up too easily. So don't be scared off by the one stars - they just didn't find the right doctor.
All the best with your creations.

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Upgrade ReviewThe beta version arrived at my house, was installed, and had lots of bells and whistles. Fancy colors, buttons, etc. However, I am not sure that the changes are worth the kind of cash proposed by Microsoft's suggested retail price. Word, Access and Excel are basically the same programs as XP, Powerpoint has a few nicer features (it always has had nice features), and Outlook does have some data management not previously available. As a small business operator, I have found it much easier to track business contacts, emails, etc. I also have a FrontPage designed website. The new FrontPage has a nifty "split" screen which allows you to look at your HTML coding along with the actual published page, both at the same time. The new FrontPage also makes general HTML tagging, coding, and changing much more user friendly. However, it suffers from the traditional Microsoft misery; namely, the online help is virtually useless. This is also true for Publisher. You will spend lots of frustrating moments with both of those programs.
...Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Upgrade OverviewMicrosoft Office 2003 Professional, the hotly anticipated successor to Microsoft Office XP, brings even more enabling power to this cornerstone of productivity that helps users connect to the right people, information and processes throughout the world of business and ideas. A host of innovations make it easier for people to take effective action and get better results!

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition with Rush Hour Expansion Pack ReviewYou don't have to be a gamer to appreciate SimCity 4. If you have the hand-eye coordination to browse a website, you're covered there. You don't need a great sense of spatial relations with the various levels of zoom. You don't need to be able to make split-second decisions with the possible exception of quickly hitting the pause button. You don't need many of the traditional computer gamer skills to enjoy SimCity 4.
What you do need is the ability to make risk-benefit decisions, and a sense of how the real world works. You need to know, for example, that people with a few bucks in their pockets don't choose to live next to a factory, and you need to understand whether it's better to spend money to build a fire station now, or risk having to rebuild if you wait.
One thing that SimCity 4 does real well is it's simulation of how a government budget works. If, for example, you build an infrastructure that appropriately supports your city, you'll find that funding everything at 100% would require raising taxes beyond what the residents and business owners will stand for. Pretty soon you'll see abandoned residential, commercial and industrial properties. That means your tax base goes down, and you'll have to raise taxes even further.
If you take the alternative and cut the funding to your infrastructure so you can lower taxes, you'll be faced with teachers, fire fighters, police, transit and healthcare worker strikes, and satisfying them enough to bring them back to work will cost you more than appropriate funding would have.
Just when you think you've found that balance between funding your infrastructure and your tax rate, the power plant and roads you originally built start reaching the end of their lives, and you need to replace them. (You were building up a surplus you can tap into, weren't you?)
While your budgetary problems may consume you, there are other factors to consider. A big one is transportation. Sims don't like rush hour traffic any more than you do - and probably less. If you let commutes get too bad, the Sims will stop going to work. You'll either need bigger roads, more efficient mass transit, or you'll need to move the factories and residential areas closer. But wait... Didn't we already establish that people don't like to live next to factories? Again you have to struggle to find a balance - and that balance needs to fit within your budgetary constraints, too!
SimCity 4 Deluxe includes the Rush Hour Expansion Pack. In addition to more transportation options, Rush Hour (and thus Deluxe) adds a "you drive it" feature that allows you to control cars, planes, helicopters, and other transports. If you're really getting into the planning and strategy of the game, these options are a distraction. But if you're showing your city to someone less interested in city planning, a you drive it mission may be a fun way to tour the city.
Something I would love to see in real life is instead of having candidates for public office debate each other, set them down in front of computers, and have them prove their ability to successfully build a working city in SimCity 4. The only governing skill SimCity 4 doesn't simulate well is the ability to work with others. I think we should be very worried about any big city mayor who isn't able to demonstrate their abilities by being successful in SimCity 4.SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition with Rush Hour Expansion Pack OverviewSimCity 4 Deluxe Edition turns you into a citizen, a criminal, an architect, a mayor, even a god -- bringing you deeper into SimLife than ever!As you create railways, ferries, plan out streets, you also get to use that transportation in a series of great new driving missions

Bulletstorm ReviewI bought this game recently at a Steam sale and I must say, it's the worst piece of garbage I have ever tried to play. Upon seeing the start menu for the first time, you are prompted to attach its product key to a Windows account (XBox Live, Hotmail, etc.) so you could "play multiplayer." I was only interested in the single player experience and tried to get around it. It turned out there was no other way of playing the game without downloading two Games For Windows Live programs without my consent and finally giving in to the key prompt. After reluctantly jumping through all the hoops to set this cumbersome system up, I was still told to restart the game several times in order to update it. This was the last straw and I ended up uninstalling the game and its proprietary software. This was a good lesson as to why people pirate these games.Bulletstorm Overview
Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter (FPS) in which players find themselves stranded on a planet that although once an adult-oriented paradise planet, is now hell incarnate, complete with savage mutants and flesh-eating gangs. The goal is simple: survive, escape the planet and pay back the SOB who sent you there. Additional features include deep 2-4 player support, a wide variety of ways to defeat enemies both large and small, an impressive arsenal of weapons and a Marvel Comics written storyline.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Review! ATTENTION ! Be careful when opening the seal of the music CD envelope! The music CD is located in the upper portion of the envelope. The problem? The envelope is only open at the top, and sealed with a circular transparent sticker. The music CD is held in place so closely to the top that the circular sticker that seals this envelope makes contact with an edge of the CD. I call attention to this so that the reader does not damage the CD when cutting the seal to remove the music CD.
Like many other reviewers, I had been fortunate enough to get early access and into the beta. I like the game a lot and I think the quality of the game itself is 5 stars, as designated in the "fun rating" for this product. Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is not perfect, and the pros and cons are discussed in reams of detail from numerous outlets.
I am placing this review to discuss the physical observations of the SWTOR Collector's Edition. I've broken this up into comments on the PACKAGE and the CONTENT VALUE associated with this product.
THE PACKAGE
... BOX ...
The SWTOR CE arrived in a box that was just a bit too long, allowing the product box to slide around with about 3 inches of play within. Amazon staff did not pad the box within with the typical plastic air bubble packes they normally use. Whoops!
To their credit, they placed a thin sheet of brown wrapping paper on top. You know, in case Darth Malgus got a bit cold within the box during transport. Wasn't that just thoughtful? Yes, I thought so, too!
Amazon already publishes the dimensions of this package, but for those who have difficulty visualizing geometry, the size can be described as follows using a CD for reference:
The SWTOR CE box is roughly:
2.25 - Two and a quarter CDs from left to right
2.10 - A fingerwidth more than two CDs from front to back
2.25 - Two and a quarter CDs tall
I have uploaded a photo to Amazon for reference.
The wraparound slip cover to the cardboard box is thick, transparent plastic. This slipcover is attached to the product box using four roughly 2 inch diameter transparent stickers as the seals on top and bottom. Removing the seal stickers will rip the printed surface of the box, so to avoid damage would likely require action to warm the adhesive of the seals first. I do not recommend actually trying this, because the reader might cry if box is accidentally scorched. Please, think of the children!
The plastic surface oriented to the front of the package has printing with the parental guidance rating (T for Teen), PC DVD-ROM platform designation, requirements in brief small print (valid credit card, internet connection), benefit in brief small print (30 days of playtime included), and Bioware/EA logos. The plastic surface oriented to the back has text explaining the content within the box complete with photos/3D renders, a paragraph or so to convince the buyer why purchase of the game would be so intensely gratifying, no actual game screenshots, long list of system requirements, and a sizeable dollop of legalese.
The North American edition has nothing on the left and right panels of the plastic surround slipcase. Based on what I have seen on the Internet, the international editions have all the information I mentioned above, repeated on those panels in other languages.
The official photos of the SWTOR CE product should give the reader some indication of the appearance of the box, but I will attempt to describe it in more detail. The actual box itself is a heavy/dense gauge cardboard, coated mostly in a soft matte printed surface. The package is a bit like 3 incomplete boxes. Two shallower "boxes" on top and bottom enclose over an inner "box" in-between but do not meet in the middle. This exposed strip of the inner box shows the SWTOR logo on the front and back, the Republic logo on the left-facing side, and the Empire logo on the right facing side. The top panel of the upper box or upper cover has a larger rendering of the SWTOR logo with embossed lettering. The bottom panel of the lower box or lower cover is blank, and it is affixed to the inner box.
The 4 sides of the overall product box have semi-glossy renders of the major characters from the previously released trailer/teaser 3d rendered movies, one character per side. Each pair of characters is rendered in a heroic and debonair action pose, facing off each other. Darth Malgus facing the green-clothed, dual saber Jedi (Satele Shan) and the Republic solider (Jace Malcom) facing off the bounty hunter (Shae Vizla). These pictures are continous from the upper cover to lower cover, but not on the exposed strip of the inner box, in between.
The promotional pre-release photo of the box shows Jedi Master Ven Zallow, from the 2009 teaser trailer where Darth Malgus and associates attack the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. As this character was not on the box I received from Amazon in contrast to the original promotional photos, it seems that the design of the SWTOR CE content was in quite bit of flux before being finalized. The components within the box also changed quite a bit in appearance. Put down the pitchforks and torches... the promotional photo has the disclaimer "Work-in-progress art".
The upper "box", or upper cover, is a slipcover over the inner box. The plastic surround slipcase, though attached to the upper and lower "boxes" is just loose enough to allow a thin, sharp instrument to cut open the seals without scuffing.
Removing the top exposes the contents sticking up 2-3 inches from the inner box, held in place with a matte black cardboard surround. A similar matte black cardboard surround is affixed on the inside of the upper cover.
... SECURITY KEY ...
The "Custom Security Authentication Key" code generator is up front, tightly packed into a sized, plastic depression that holds it in place, embedded in the cardboard. The authentication key looks just like the promotional photo, with a yellow metal-appearance motif, a tiny SWTOR logo, a small keychain ring (not robust, don't haul the key around), and a button to generate a code. If you have any experience with the Blizzard Authenticator used for World of Warcraft and Starcraft II, then the form factor is very close to the same. The codes that this key generates are 8 numbers long, and appear whenever the button is pressed.
... STATUE ...
The Darth Malgus statue is housed within it's own box in the center of the outer package box. It is, in part, held in place with the cardboard surround, and at the bottom with a thin plastic tray.
The statue box is also matte black, but the quality of the print is a step down in quality from the outer box itself. The statue box is not sealed. Mine arrived with a heavy crease horizontally across two sides, embedded there by the horizontal surround that held all the content together in the outer box. The Empire logo is on top, rendered in color but not metallic. The front of the box shows frontal photo of the statue with the SWTOR logo / "COLLECTOR'S EDITION" above the photo and "DARTH MALGUS STATUE" below. The Gentle Giant logo is in the lower right corner. The sides show the left and right sides of the statue, and the back shows the front of the statue again. The bottom of the statue box has a disclaimer from Gentle Giant (English and French) explaining their guarantee on the quality of the product, but not the packing materials or box, explaining that these would not be replaced. There is also the bevy of company logos, legalese and also "MADE IN CHINA" and "Adult Collectible. This is not a toy."
The statue within is held in two vertical halves of styrofoam, held together with transparent packing tape wrapped around where the edges of the styrofoam halves meet. Gentle Giant is imprinted on the bottom of the styrofoam. The tape also holds in place a small card with a photo of the statue, about the size of a baseball card. This is the certificate of authenticity.
My statue was exactly like the pre-release official photos. The statue was wrapped in plastic with an accompanying small silica bag to collect moisture. The light saber "blade" was separate inside the styrofoam, enclosed in white tissue paper.
... BOOK ...
To the left of the statue box is a hardcover book entitled "The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural. This book is sealed in heat-shrink plastic wrap. The book binding is rough cloth with text in metallic bronze/gold and an embossed metallic logo of the Republic. The book is an inch wider and an inch and half longer than the metal game disc case, so it's still a little smallish.
The book has no legalese on front or back. I will update this review later with comments on the book content.
... METAL CASE ...
To the right of the statue box is the metal case holding the game discs, the poster of the planets in the game (Old Republic galaxy map), and a thin envelope containing the music CD.
The metal case is matte black with the same bronze/gold lettering, and does not resemble the pre-release promotional photo The front has:
Embossed SWTOR log
COLLECTOR'S EDITION
Empire logo
The rear has:
Republic logo
Legalese in English
Legalese in French
Inside the metal case are two plastic, dual disc trays holding the 3 game DVDs. The 4th tray is empty. This is in contrast to the promotional photo that implies there are 4 game discs. Why didn't the soundtrack go inside here if there was room? Perhaps international editions of the game need a fourth disc for the translated audio... this is speculation on my part.
On the inner portion of the metal case is a glossy sheet with the product registration code and...Read more›Star Wars: The Old Republic Overview

SimCity 3000 Unlimited ReviewFor those who don't have SimCity 3000 already, SimCity 3000 Unlimited is the best way to get into the game. The game is nearly identical to the smash hit of 1999. All the same playability, the same city building challenges, etc.
For those who already own SimCity 3000, there are a number of new options that could make it worthwhile to upgrade. In fact, when you install Unlimited on a computer that already has the original 3000, you get the option to transfer over files (like all your old cities). It then even does the uninstall of the old product for you (very nice). Granted, Unlimited does chew up a bit more disk space so you should make sure you have room to spare for the new version.
I'd also suggest you try to get in while the rebate is going on. It will get you back $10 on the price of Unlimited. Then you won't feel so bad spending money on a game you basically already have. Then do what I did: give your old copy of SimCity 3000 to a family member to get them hooked on the game. SimCity 3000 Unlimited OverviewSim City 3000 Unlimited brings you the classic strategy gaming of Sim City 3000 with all-new scenarios that open up a whole world of city planning and building possibilities! The thrill of the classic Sim City 3000 are here again!

Rage ReviewI recently completed id's Rage for the PC, so I decided to post a review of the game. Here are ten important things you need to know:
1. Gameplay - Simply put, Rage is fun. The controls feel smooth and natural as you progress through an exciting world of action and suspense. The gameplay is mostly linear, but there is enough variety to keep it interesting. Furthermore, the sidequests are fun, and they mesh well with the pace of the game. Rage doesn't push too many boundaries, but it doesn't feel like it needs to.
2. Graphics - The world of Rage is as rich and beautiful as a post-apocalyptic world can be. Up close, the textures appear slightly low-res, but that barely impacts the overall presentation. Minor texture popping is an issue, although it has mostly been remedied with recent updates.
3. Characters - The characters that live in Rage are vibrant and well-voiced, but they are ultimately unmemorable. Some blame is due to the fact that you never get to stay in one town for very long, but the primary fault is that there is no character development. The characters only exist to assign missions and provide atmosphere to the story and environment.
4. Plot - The recycled story is Rage's weakest feature. What exists is well-delivered, but it will leave you wanting more, especially after the game's anti-climatic conclusion. Plot voids may be acceptable in some action games, but Rage is designed to make the player crave something epic. This expectation ultimately leads to disappointment.
5. Multiplayer - Rage has two multiplayer modes, but neither is compelling, and deathmatch is completely absent. This omission is disappointing because Rage's weapons would have been exciting to experience competitively. Although id used to be the king of PC multiplayer, potential players should know that Rage is mostly a single-player experience.

6. Weapons and Items - Rage provides an assortment of weapons, items, and ammunition that greatly enhances the gameplay. Although many weapons seem familiar, some provide enough of a twist to make Rage unique. Unlike some first-person shooters, buying ammo seems essential, especially if you want the full impact of what the game has to offer.
7. Driving - Driving is a major aspect of Rage. It's required in order to progress the story and to safely travel, and it's a primary means to make money. Vehicle maintenance and acquisition is also required. Rage does a great job balancing these aspects and making them feel like a natural part of the game.
8. Enemies - Rage is populated with various factions of people, so you'll encounter a decent variety of foes that gradually increase in difficulty and complexity. The only disappointment is that the best, most impressive boss fight occurs early in the game, and there are few major encounters to look forward to after that.
9. Immersion - Despite its fantastic gameplay, Rage suffers from not being immersive enough. Overall, the environment feels decorative. There are way too many invisible walls, and there is very little to interact with or destroy. It's annoying when enemies use and drop weapons that cannot be picked up, and it's annoying to loot them just to get their cash and ammo.
10. Mini Games - Rage offers a small assortment of mini games including a card game that relies on your ability to find and collect the cards as you perform your missions. However, these games feel inconsequential as there are no rewards for playing them other than money and achievements, and money never feels scarce.
Conclusion
Rage provides an incomplete experience, and it will not be appreciated by players who demand depth in story. However, despite its flaws, there is a lot to love. Most importantly, Rage is fun! I recommend it for anyone who can appreciate an single-player action game for the entertainment it provides.Rage OverviewRAGE is a groundbreaking first-person shooter set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, leaving a ravaged world behind. Microsoft Office XP Professional Upgrade ReviewYes, Office XP performs all the tricks so that any document, presentation and/or spread sheet looks like a million dollars but how many times is Microsoft going to slap a label on a product and declare it to be a major improvement?
The features found in Office XP are almost a clone to the previous Office suite's. Yes, you can now hold 24 items in your clipboard and that is indeed something but isn't that a nifty trick that could have been added as a download? The task panes, etc. look nice but nobody in the work world is going to use them. Also, you need a full screen when you are seriously working and some of Office XP's innovations reduce the work area.
If you are happy with the Office suite you are currently using, keep it and ignore this upgrade. There are no improvements big or small that justify the cost. Yes, it has the best programs going but it is difficult to install and after you finally get it on your system you are left with - a clone of the Office Suite you were previously using.Microsoft Office XP Professional Upgrade OverviewThe most significant version of Office ever released, Microsoft Office XP Professional integrates productivity innovations throughout its programs to transform the traditional Office suite into a smarter overall work experience. By simplifying productivity, enabling collaboration for everyone, and extending Office beyond the desktop, Office XP Professional streamlines how people work with information and one another, making it easier for everyone to create, share, and analyze important data. In addition to the core Office XP programs - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint - Office XP Professional includes Microsoft Access 2002, the Office XP database solution that helps users store, access, and analyze their data. Whether you're working on your PC, company intranet or the Web, new context-sensitive Smart Tags pop up with the options you need - right when you need them. No digging through menus! Now tasks that once required multiple steps are just one click away. The secret? The new Task Pane. The bottom line? You'll use more of the software features in Office XP, to get more done in less time. Relax. Your work is safe with Office XP because AutoRecover saves it at regular intervals while you work. Prone to sudden power outages? Relax again. Document Recovery is designed to save your PC's work-in-progress.

Windows Vista Business with SP1 Upgrade ReviewMicrosoft Vista Business came bundled with a Lenovo laptop. Various glitches prompted numerous calls to my Microsoft Certified IT expert. Most recently, the system would just lose contact with the Internet for unknown reasons, then just as mysteriously regain contact several days later. Sometimes a "route print" at the administrator command prompt would show two "0.0.0.0" route entries, and deletion of these would sometimes (but not always) remedy the problem. Anyway, my IT expert finally just took Vista off and installed XP. I'm guessing my final outlay on this headache will total $700, not to mention my time.
Absolutely avoid the Vista operating system. I loaded Linux Ubuntu on a spare machine while the laptop was in the shop, and got instant browser, email, and Microsoft compatible word processing and spreadsheet. No flash, just functionality.Windows Vista Business with SP1 Upgrade OverviewMicrosoft Windows Vista Business Service Pack 1 Upgrade

Command And Conquer Generals Deluxe Edition - Windows ReviewFirst, I want to say this game ROCKS. I recently repurchased it because I wanted a game worthy of my time. My very favorite aspect is that it favors brain over brawn--with the (possible) exception of the Chinese Overlord Tank, there is nothing you can spam to blindly charge and overcome everything. But if you pick the right units and manage them smartly, you can acheive Spartan-like dominance. Last night I sent over 200 GLA basic infantry at a Patriot Missle embankment of 10 or 12 units, and moved at least 3 dozen rocket buggies around for a flank attack. My opponent saw my buggies with his UAV scouts, and killed them all with a handful of commanche helicopters (buggies have no air defense), while my AK47's and suicide bombers were slaughtered by his missile turrets (they're not meant to fight defense buildings). In the next minute he lost 6 commanches and 2 tanks to my 6 RPG troops bunkered in a building. You CANNOT throw stuff blindly around and expect to win. I like having to think.
Since no other reviews on here seem to do this, let me briefly review my impression of each faction.
USA--these guys are about two things--communication, and precision. The U.S. start out with radar, and they're the only faction to do so. An early General ability is to drop a UAV scout over any point in the map, and as long as it's not detected/shot down it will stay there and show you that part of the map. In addition, the U.S. Command Center has an ability to do a radar sweep of an area at will. Finally, you can also have a detention center that will periodically allow you to see EVERYTHING your opponent does. Basically, the U.S. is Big Brother, and he's watching you. Even their defense systems communicate. If two or more Patriot Missile emplacements are close together, they can network to all fire at the same enemy--even if that enemy would normally be out of range for one of them.
The precision part shows up in the U.S. Arsenal. The Pathfinder (sniper) can make quick work of infantry, and their big tank (The Paladin) has a slow-firing defense laser that can even stop a SCUD missile. They have a broad air force including a fighter jet and stealth bomber (both limited in use, in my opinion), an attack helicopter (commanche), and a supersonic bomber. The chopper can make quick work of any ground unit that's away from air defense, but is made of paper and goes down pretty easily. The Aurora bomber can put a nasty bomb anywhere you want it, being impossible to hit until it has dropped its payload. Even the U.S. superweapon is precise--the ion beam is mouse-controlled to affect a very specific area. In comparison to the other two weapons, this is pretty underwhelming--but the rest of the American arsenal makes up for it.CHINA--These guys are about brute force and strength in numbers. Their basic infantry, rocket infantry, and basic tank are all slightly weaker than their American counterparts, but they also get a "horde" bonus if you have a group of 5 or more close to one another. The Chinese don't start with radar; you have to build a separate building for that. While they don't have the map advantage that the U.S. does, their focus on specialty armor and artillery make them a formiddable foe. Their basic defense turret is a gattling cannon instead of a missile emplacement, so it deals much better damage to infantry and aircraft.
The Chinese have an air force, if a very limited one--they only have one plane, the MiG. It's slightly better in air combat than the U.S. fighter plane, and its missiles have a napalm effect--get a few of them to bomb the same ground target, and you get a nasty little firestorm effect that lasts for a little bit. The real stars in the Chinese arsenal are its artillery and the Overlord tank. Its basic artillery fires a napalm shell, and if you get a few of these guys going you get that same firestorm that makes for a handy no-man's land. This can put a sudden stop to any opposing land assault. If you don't want several basic artillery running around, you can also opt for one or two nuke cannons. They lob mini-nukes great distances, and they do severe damage with a radioactive lingering effect. The Overlord is a gigantic two-barreled tank, the heaviest ground unit in the game. It can be upgraded with a healing tower, an infantry bunker, or a pair of gattling cannons for air and infantry defense. While not such a star, the Chinese gattling tank is also a force to be reckoned with. Basically, this armor-centric arsenal is designed to punch through and mow down anything in their path. If you preferred the Orcs from Warcraft 3, these guys are for you. Their superweapon also demonstrates this--while consuming a great amount of power, the Nuke is the Big Ugly of the super weapons and leaves a long-lasting radioactive effect over a large radius.GLA--These poor guys don't have map-hack skills or brute force. They're the ragtag, the rebels, the little people, and very difficult to play with--I'll spend a bit more time on them so you can see how they work. They also, unsurprisingly, don't start with radar--you have to get the vehicle for that. The extra delay of having to build a vehicle depot means that the GLA goes the longest in any game without radar, and this makes you feel pretty vulnerable starting out. There's also a consistent sense of being broke, at least early on. The USA uses its mighty Chinooks to get supplies, and the Chinese use their supply trucks. The GLA uses slaves. They don't take as long to collect supplies, but they move more slowly and carry less. And they complain.
Despite these difficulties, the GLA is surprisingly viable as a fighting force--instead of brute force or precision strikes, they excel at map control and generally annoying the crap out of your opponent. They're very versatile--unlike the USA and China, they do not require power plants to keep any of their buildings running, so you never have to worry about support for your buildings. This allows you to decentralize greatly, to great effect. For example, troops will not automatically attack most buildings, so destroying a base is cumbersome work. If you know which buidings to take out, you can cripple your opponent. If they can't find your important buildings or you have more than one, you can frustrate them greatly--especially if your base has defense buildings throughout. The GLA defense building is the stinger site, manned by a few rpg troops. These troops can be killed separately from the site itself, but over time they regenerate. If the stinger site itself is blown up, a tunnel hole is left, and you can quickly rebuild if the tunnel hole hasn't been destroyed. They also have a Tunnel Network building, which allows you to move up to 10 troops instantly to any other Tunnel Network building you own. This makes for a very fast reinforcement system to frustrate your opponents advance.
The GLA arsenal is almost entirely constructed of paper meche, but very cheap. In terms of infantry, the best unit is the mob. Starting with 5 civilians with guns (and later, AK47s), this unit gets larger over time and is very hard to kill. They use Molotov cocktails on buildings and vehicles, to great effect. The GLA armor division is also very ragtag. Quad Cannons are like a paper version of the Gattling tank, and even the Marauder tank can't really hold its own against other armor. But, both of these can upgrade their guns to great effect by "salvaging" the remains of enemy tanks you kill. You can also get a "junk" upgrade that lets your fighting armor repair itself on the fly, which is really handy. For artillery, you have a rocket buggy (which has range juuust longer than that of defensive buildings) and the SCUD Launcher, what I consider to be as good as the Chinese Nuke Launcher. It doesn't fire as far, but it hits hard and it's not nearly as cumbersome. And you never know when it will pop out of a tunnel network. Finally, the GLA have the truck bomb--yes, manned by a suicide bomber. This can be disguised as an enemy armor unit, and your opponent has to manually click on it to undo the camouflage. He'll see this coming when you attack him--but defensively, it can make a significant difference very quickly. And of course, the GLA have no air force at all. Their Superweapon is the SCUD storm, a toxic wannabe Nuke shower that still covers a large area and hurts worse than the USA superweapon.Command And Conquer Generals Deluxe Edition - Windows Overview
